A rose called by any other name is still a rose is Mr Raila Odinga the ORANGE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT chief a statesman should Mr Raila Amolo Odinga be counted as a statesman and what does it mean to be called a statesman.
What is a state a state can be defined as a territory that has achieved the standard of being called a Nation.
The idea of state is achieved once the territory is recognized according to the united nations charter as a state.
The latest territory to be recognized as a state is South Sudan another Nation recently recognized by the united Nations as a state is Montenegro other territories and groups of people who are waiting to be recognized as a state includes Catalonia.
Once the Nation has been recognized by the united Nations as a territory and there are people living within the territory then the standard of being called a state or nationhood has been achieved.
The word state means the Nation is a recognized territory but the word state can also mean the evolution of the Nation or the process of development of the Nation or the current condition of the Nation.
A statesman is a person who has greatly influenced the current condition of the Nation in a positive way and is the reason for the positive achievements of the people who live within the territory
Mr Hugo Chavez of Venezuela cannot be called a statesman most Venezuelans are living in foreign Countries and if you asked them if Mr Hugo Chavez is a Statesman they would disagree. Mr Adolf Hitler cannot be classified as a Statesman even though he considered the German race to be the superior race most Germans today do not like talking about the world war 2. If the plans of the leader fail then the relevant Human being cannot achieve the status of Statesman.
Another understanding of the State is the work of a collection of generations each generation contributes to the status of Nation hood.
Kenya achieved independence in 1963 the reason Kenya achieved independence so early is because of the activities of Mr Dedan Kimathi a Field Marshall Mr Dedan Kimathi was the leader of the MauMau rebellion. would it be right to call Mr Dedan Kimathi a States Man No his plans for this Nation failed Mr Dedan Kimathi was fighting for the Kikuyu Culture and land not for the independence of Kenya.
Kenya has been independent for approximately 60 years and Kenya has achieved a certain level of development development can be understood to mean a certain standard of living that has been achieved by people who live within the territory of Kenya
The Independence generation achieved a different standard of living compared to the current generation of Kenyans the cause of the difference can be attributed to the vision of a Statesman.
The Nation of Israel was established by King David the vision of Zion and the idea of Zionism is from King David.
Mao tse tung is Credited with the establishment of the Chinese Nation can he also achieves the standard of being called a Statesman The Russians have Stalin and The French Napoleon.
King David prayed to God and said i will not rest until i build a house for the Holy one of Israel and God said that is not your work someone else will build for me a house.
Sometimes it is not right to credit the state of a Nation with one individual there are many Nations that Credit their Statehood with one individual but still there are some Nations that credit the Status of State with a generation
If i say Mr Abraham Lincoln is a Statesman then i am saying the whole generation is represented by Abraham Lincoln for this reasoning Mr Abraham Lincoln is a Statesman.
Statehood or Nation hood can be achieved by a collection of presidents
The state of a Nation should always be understood as a result of the efforts of a collection of generations and each generation is represented by a president then the president is considered a statesman and if the president does achieve the obligations then the president fails to be called a Statesman.
If Mr Raila Odinga has never been president then Mr Raila Odinga cannot be called a Statesman. The Standard of Statesman can only be achieved by people who have achieved the presidency then the president is representative of the generation that pays taxes.
If Mr Raila Odinga is to be called a Statesman then Mr Raila Odinga should have influenced the Nation of Kenya and is the reason why Kenya is what it is today.
The first president of Kenya Jomo Kenyatta cannot be called a statesman Mr Jomo Kenyatta is a president Kenya as a Nation or state has not been born at this point Mr Jomo Kenyatta can only be classified as a president a preservative president. Mr Jomo Kenyatta introduced single party politics as a way of keeping Kenya united this is one of the major reasons Kenya exists today. Mr Kenyatta resisted the idea of devolution he believed a Kenyan can live anywhere and be born anywhere within the territory of Kenya but still Mr Jomo Kenyatta can only be classified as a preservative president.
Mr Moi is also a preservative president not a statesman Mr Moi presidency is an extension of the presidency of My Kenyatta Mr Moi was president for 24 years but he still cannot be classified as a statesman for the simple reason the Nation of Kenya has not been born.
Mr Moi vision reconciles to the Kenyan vision especially as far as peace harmony and prosperity and most importantly stability is concerned.
Mr Kibaki cannot be considered a Statesman but a preservative president for the same reason the status of Nation hood has not been achievedpeople are still community Luos Kikuyus and others. even though there was prosperity peace and a sense of stability during his time as president.
Can Mr Uhuru be considered a statesman when he finishes his term in 600 days and approximately 10 years after his presidency then he can be called a Statesman.
The question then becomes can Mr Raila Amolo Odinga be called a statesman Mr Raila Amolo Odinga has never lived in Statehouse so at this point he cannot be called a statesman the Nation of Kenya has not been born. The fact that Mr Raila Odinga is a major influence of the constitution does not mean Mr Raila Odinga should be called a statesman a constitution does not mean a Nation has been born the Constitution is a collection of external Laws.
The fact that Mr Raila Odinga was a major contributor to introduction and practice of Multi party politics does not Make Mr Raila odinga a Statesman If Mr Jomo Kenyatta who fiercely insisted on single party politics which is Kenyan politics because single party politics creates more stability peace and prosperity compared to Multi party politics
If Mr Jomo Kenyatta does not achieve the status of a States man how can Mr Raila Odinga achieve the status of president for promoting Multi Party politics.
If Mr Raila Odinga and his influence is to be called what it is Mr Raila Odinga should be counted a statesman for reminding us that we are not Kenyans we are still Luos and Kikuyus and other community people the idea of Kenya has not taken root Kenya has not been born.
Mr Raila Odingas book quest for Nationhood is evidence is that Kenya has not been born and Mr Raila Odinga is not a Stateman.
It is not right for for a person to say he is a Kenya then along the conversation the person confesses that Kenya is in Asia a Kenyan knows Kenya is in Africa.
